Established in 1999, the Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC) is an umbrella organization whose member collectives represent songwriters, recording artists, music publishers and record companies.\u00a0 The CPCC is the non-profit organization responsible for collecting and distributing private copying levies on behalf of its member collectives.<\/p>\n
The Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd. is a music licensing collective representing music rights holders who range in size from large multinational music publishers to individual songwriters.\u00a0 Together, they own or administer the vast majority of songs recorded, sold and broadcast in Canada.\u00a0 On their behalf, CMRRA issues licences to individuals or organizations for the reproduction of songs on CDs, cassettes and similar physical products; for the reproduction of songs related to music downloads, streaming and webcasting; and, for the reproduction of songs by radio stations and satellite broadcasters.<\/p>\n
SOCAN administers the communication and performing rights of copyright-protected music, when it is used in Canada.\u00a0 On behalf of music creators and publishers, they collect fees from individuals, businesses and organizations that play music in public, broadcast it, or communicate it by telecommunication.<\/p>\n
SOCAN for Reproduction Rights issues licences for the reproduction of musical and artistic works.\u00a0 By granting to SOCAN the right to license the reproduction rights in the case of musical works, and all rights in the case of artistic works, rights holders, including music publishers and creators of artistic works, collect royalties in Canada and abroad for the reproduction and exhibition of their works in various forms including CDs, records, digital media, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and other visual arts media.<\/p>\n
Re:Sound is the Canadian not-for-profit music licensing company dedicated to obtaining fair compensation for artists and record companies for their performance rights. Re:Sound licenses recorded music for public performance, broadcast and new media.
